Simple Solutions for the Super Stressed

We haven't even really hit our stride in the holiday season yet, and people are already feeling super stressed! Whether the upcoming holiday season is causing you stress or you are dealing with other kinds of life problems, feeling repressed by stress is no fun at all!

Most of us know that stress isn't healthy, yet taking steps to support ourselves in times of stress can often seem like just one more thing to add to our "to do" lists. Luckily, supporting our bodies and minds during stressful times doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, it can be really simple.

Simple Solutions for Support
Convenience, simplicity, and ease ... these are the keys to
supporting ourselves when stressed. If you feel stressed, try
this simple nutritional "recipe" to keep you on track until the
current crisis in your life has passed:

1 to 4 supplement packets containing 2 kinds of bluegreen algae, enzyme, probiotics

-- plus one of the following options --

1 to 2 capsules of this immune system support supplement
1 to 2 capsules of Coenzyme Q10
1 to 2 capsules of this stem cell support supplement

Why This Recipe Works
First, this little nutritional recipe works because it only
requires you to put a box of the supplements in packets next to a bottle of
antioxidants on your kitchen counter. You can gulp down these
supplements easily before or after breakfast.

Second, the these supplement packets provide you with a full spectrum of
nutritional support. Each packet contains two forms of bluegreen algae, probiotics,
and enzymes. The blue-green algae gives
you both mental clarity and physical energy. The probiotics
support digestion and relaxation. The enzymes help you digest and
get the maximum nutrition from your food. Sounds good, right?

Then, depending on which supplement you choose from the list, you get additional benefits. Giving your immune system strong support, promoting heart and gum health, plus providing cellular and physical energy with Coenzyme Q10 or promoting stem cell production in your body and supporting the body's healing processes.

This little recipe is a one-two punch that you can easily
incorporate into your morning routine. When you feel more
stressed, increase your intake of these whole foods. When you
feel less stress, decrease your intake.

It's as simple as that!

Enzyme Therapy – Using the Right Enzymes

We've all heard the old saying "You Are What You Eat", but if you really think about this it should be changed to "You Are What You Can Digest". In our age of fast food, processed foods and foods cooked with no active enzymes, we do not get the nutrition our bodies need from the foods we are eating. The pancreas, liver and spleen are all stressed to produce the enzymes that our diets fail to provide. No matter how healthy we try to eat, modern foods and the ways they are processed just don't provide what we need. Enzyme Therapy is a must to supplement our diets.

Enzymes are necessary to aid digestion by metabolizing fat, proteins and carbohydrates and to be absorbed into the blood to clean long-term residual food particles. Since we don't get the enzymes we need straight from our foods, we need to have a little Enzyme Therapy to get the right enzymes into our diets. There are 4 types of food enzymes that our bodies need and each has its own role to play:

1. Lipase – breaks down fat molecules and helps the body store fat. A shortage of lipase can compromise the circulation and contribute to high blood pressure and high cholesterol and degrade the immune system.

2. Protease – breaks down proteins to produce amino acids vital to growth and health of our bodies

3. Cellualse – breaks down cellulose which is found in fruits and vegetables we eat.

4. Amylase – breaks down starch molecules and has been found to relieve mental fatigue and help in maintaining a healthy mind and body.

Exactly how important are food enzymes to one's health? Dr. Edward Howell after completing his enzyme research, Food Enzymes For Health Longevity, stated, "Diets deficient in enzymes cause a 30% reduction in life-span." His recommendation is to take capsules of concentrated plant enzymes to supplement our diets.

Let us introduce you to our favorite 2 basic enzyme products to help with the supplementation of your diet and make sure you get the right enzymes.

The first enzyme product – contains amylase, cellualse, lipase, protease and lactase for more efficient digestion and also contains MycoPepsin, the first enzyme on the market that works in a low pH environment. As food digests, the stomach becomes more acidic. These enzymes remain active in a highly acidic environment.

The second enzyme product – contains a plant based enzyme blend of 12 active enzymes. Also has blue-green algae, fennel seed, ginger root and cayenne pepper to further aid in digestion. As with our other favorite enzymes, these enzymes remain active in a highly acidic environment.

Supplementing your diet with enzymes  allows you to digest your food to the fullest and get the nutrition your body needs. You can be what you eat with a little enzyme therapy.

Natural Solutions to Boost Your Immune System

We hear a lot these days about boosting the immune system. But what exactly is the immune system? Basically it is certain types of body cells that protect against bacterial, parasitic, fungal, and viral infections as well as tumor cell growth.

Here is what happens in the body to provide this protection:
  • Bone marrow starts the process as it creates cells through hematopoiesis of its stem cells into immune system cells.
  • The thymus produces mature T cells from other bone marrow cells.
  • These T cells are needed as a helper in the immune system. Some T-cells help regulate the complex workings of the immune system and activate white blood cells to fight infections and others destroy infected or mutant cells.
  • The spleen also has a role to play. It is made up of B Cells, T cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, natural killer cells and red blood cells. It acts as a blood filter capturing antigens and destroying old red blood cells or using its B cells to produce antibodies.
  • Lymph Nodes throughout the body, composed mainly of T cells, B cells, dendritic cells and macrophages, drain tissue fluid and filter antigens from lymph.
  • Macrophages regulate immune system response and carry antigens to T cells and B cells to deal with.
  • Dendritic cells found in the thymus, lymph nodes, spleen, blood stream and tissues performs much like the macrophages in carrying antigens to T cells and B cells.

Now that we understand how the immune system works and how important it is to our health, here's some ways you can keep it in good shape:
  • Eat foods rich in antioxidants, fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Get 8 hours of sleep each night
  • Exercise 30 minutes a day
  • Drink eight 8-oz. glasses of water a day
Other things you can include in your diet that help boost your immune system naturally are:
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Beta-carotene
  • Zinc
  • Garlic
  • Selenium
  • Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Lemon
  • Beta glucan

We understand how important the immune system is and have solutions to offer for boosting it naturally. This immune support supplement  is designed especially for enhancing support of the body's immune system and supporting the production and activity of beneficial white blood cells. It contains the active ingredient WGP™ beta glucan, a patented form of the complex carbohydrate beta glucan, which is found in the cell walls of baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University have shown that WGP beta glucan is able to activate macrophages thus creating a stronger immune system. Beta glucan itself is a complex carbohydrate of glucose derived from sources such as yeast, bacteria, fungi, and cereals like oats, barley, and rye.

We also want to introduce you to products to supplement your antioxidant protection which boosts the immune system. Here are a few to check out:
  • Sprouts Supplement – provides blend of kale sprouts, red clover sprouts, wheat sprouts, concentrated wheat sprouts, and Dunaliella salina algae for powerful antioxidant protection
  • Stem Cell support supplement – provides natural antioxidants including wild blueberry, green tea, carnosine, and organic Wild Bluegreen Algae
  • Coenzyme Q10 supplement – contains 82% of the daily value of antioxidant vitamin A. Provides a powerful combination of antioxidants and a full spectrum of carotenoids found in red beta algae and bluegreen algae.

With winter quickly approaching, now is the time to make sure your immune system is in good shape to help fight off the flus and colds that come with the season. Try these supplements to help you get your immune system strengthened naturally.

Pets Are People Too

Betty, the elderly woman who lives next door to me, has a miniature apricot poodle named Mandy. Mandy is Betty's constant companion and I never see one without the other. Betty keeps her immaculately groomed with a different colored bow in her hair each day, feeds her the highest quality dog food, takes her for walks twice a day and talks to her throughout the day as if she is a human roommate.

Betty is a widow; her children grown and living in cities far away. Mandy is the most important "person" in her daily life. She keeps Betty company, gives her focus and someone to care for, gives her unconditional love and limitless amounts of joy. I know Betty keeps herself healthy by eating healthy foods, exercising and she takes bluegreen algae. I know this because she gets it through my nutritional supplement business. I recently asked her if she had considered algae for Mandy. Her astonished response was, "I never thought of that". As much as her life centers around Mandy and as much as she does to keep Mandy healthy, it never occurred to her that algae would work for Mandy the same way it works for herself.

Algae does work for pets just like for us humans. Our favorite algae for pets is this powdered blend and this powdered blend with glucosamine added. The regular powdered blend contains bluegreen algae, a mix of probiotic, prebiotics and enzymesc  and antioxidant-rich wheat sprouts. The enhanced powdered blend contains all that and 700 mg of glucosamine per teaspoon for health joint support.

An alternative supplement that works good is these convenient packets that have 2 types of algae, acidophilus, bifidus and enzymes in each packet used by many people for their pets, from cats and dogs to horses. Either of the powdered blends are easier for some pet owners to give as they are in a powder form that can be sprinkled over food or dissolved in the water bowl. For pets who will take capsules easily enough, some owners open a supplement packet and give one capsule a day over 6 days, then start a new packet. Others divide the packet into light colored capsules at one feeding and dark colored ones at another feeding.

Good nutrition for our pets, just like for people, adds to overall health meaning less doctor or vet bills and longer quality lifespan. After all, our pets are a part of our families and some of the most important "people" in our lives. Bluegreen algae can help us keep them happy, healthy, and active for all their years.

Jump Start Your Day with Super Sun Smoothie

It's a sunny, lazy afternoon. I'm lying in a hammock strung between two enormous palm trees; the ocean breeze and scent of tropical flowers blowing gently over me. Then I hear it. That annoying buzzing sound that seems to come at the end of all my dreams. Yes, the alarm clock. It wakes me from my pleasant tropical dream reminding me it's time to get up, come back to reality and face another work day.

I drag into the kitchen and reach for my container of smoothie drink mix knowing it will help jump start my day so I can enjoy it almost as much as my dream.

What type of tasty breakfast drink shall I fix this morning? Part of the fun this marvelous powder brings to my morning is the creativity I employ by adding other ingredients to the already tasty drink it creates. I can add this smoothie powder to different juices or a glass of soy milk, blend in my favorite fruits, nuts, flavorings or even other supplements. By stirring or blending a serving of my smoothie mix in an 8-ounce glass of fruit juice, I create the basic pick-me-up shake with 22 grams of  organic whey protein, bluegreen alage, sprouts and enzymes.

This smoothie mix is a nutritious addition to cooking, baking, fresh fruits or breakfast cereal. You are unlimited in the types of concoctions and meals you can use your imagination to create. I think today I'll mix it into a little yogurt, blend in some fresh blueberries and stir all that into a bowl of oatmeal. Ummm, that's good. And now I'm ready to face my day!

Spirulina, Cholrella, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae - Is There a Difference in Algae?

The simple answer is, Yes, there is a difference. Here's the more complex answer.

Aphanizomenon flos-aquae is the type known as Wild Bluegreen algae. Spirulina are blue-green algae. Chlorella is a green algae. Each of these contain phytochemicals, proteins, minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids and chlorophyll. There are differences however that make Wild Bluegreen algae superior to Spirulina or Chlorella. Here are some of the differences for you to weigh for yourself.

1. Where do they come from –
Aphanizomenon flos-aquae, Wild Bluegreen algae, grows wild in Upper Klamath Lake fed by geothermal springs. Here within an abundance of minerals accumulated over thousands of years, the algae completes its life cycle in the Fall adding to the natural sediment at the bottom of the lake. The most virile algae cells that survive the winter, reproduce again in the Spring. Upper Klamath Lake has a sediment bed of 35 feet. One inch of this bed contains enough nutrients to support 60 years of algae growth. 200 million pounds of algae grows here every year.

In comparison, Spirulina and Chlorella are artificially grown in concrete raceways, ponds and tanks.

2. Added Chemicals –
Nothing is added to the water at Upper Klamath Lake. This is one reason Wild Bluegreen algae is certified organic.

Domestic suppliers of Spirulina are not certified organic due to the addition of chemicals to their culture ponds. Foreign Spirulina growers that are organic-certified reportedly have animal manure added to culture ponds as a nutrient source.

Wild Bluegreen algae nutrients come only from the sediment and soil in Upper Klamath Lake.

3. Processing –
Wild Bluegreen algae is harvested such that the algae is cooled to less than 40 degrees within a minute of being taken from the water. This preserves the nutritional properties.

Most Spirulina and Chlorella products utilize a drying process involving high heat even when freeze-drying is used. Heat destroys micronutrients and the enzymatic activity.

Wild Bluegreen algae is dried by Bioactive Dehydration which is a low temperature, organic and kosher certified drying process that preserves natural vitamins, enzymes and other phytonutrients.

The choice is yours. If you are looking for a whole food supplement that is chemical-free, manure-free, 100% from nature, certified organic/kosher/halal, grown wild with more nutrients and protein; Wild Bluegreen algae is the choice for you.

Comfort Food and Gut Bombs

What is your "comfort food"? You know what I mean, that food you resort to when you've had a really stressful day to reward yourself for surviving with most of your sanity intact or to make yourself feel better and lift your spirits. Mine is doughnuts. Not just any doughnuts mind you, but the kind with the custard filling and chocolate frosting on top. I have to go to great lengths to avoid going anywhere near my favorite bakery on those days when it seems that nothing has gone right or I'm really stressed out. Why is it that so many of our "comfort foods" seem to turn right into gut bombs? I know that doughnut or two is going to go straight to my belly and show up as ugly, unhealthy fat.

The physical reason is because so many of these foods are high in carbohydrates or calories that come from fat. Fat of course gets stored immediately in the body. Your body can only easily digest a certain amount of carbohydrates before it then converts those carbs to fat to store away. Proteins and fiber are less likely to be converted to fat storage as the body is able to eliminate any of those it can't digest.

Gut bombs are also caused by undigested food sitting there because your body doesn't have enough enzymes to digest it. This can be due to the type of calories we are ingesting, like carbs and fat, or to the way we eat meals. If we allow ourselves to get hungry, our bodies go into starvation mode and hoard the calories. This causes a feeling of being deprived and craving our comfort foods. Eating more, smaller meals throughout the day allows us to avoid this state and avoid the cravings for unhealthy foods.

Another way to fight the gut bomb is to build lean muscle because muscle burns more calories than fat does and increases your metabolism which in turn burns fat away. One way to increase your metabolism to burn fat away is by drinking enough water. Increasing metabolism to burn fat is the job of your liver. The liver however also takes over some of the jobs your kidneys should be doing and can't if the kidneys don't have enough water. That in turns slows the liver down from converting stored fat into energy. The average person needs to drink about 2 quarts of water a day. This of course should not be all at one time, but rather spread out throughout the day so as to not overtax the kidneys. If you are overweight, very active or live in a particularly dry climate area, you may need even more water. A simple formula for determining how much water you should drink daily is:
  • Calculate 75% of your body weight. If you weigh 150 pounds, this would be 112.5 pounds.
  • Covert that figure to ounces (112.6 ounces).
  • Add 16 ounces each for a dry climate or strenuous exercise
Water also prevents dehydration which slows down the process of fat burning and drinking water before meals makes us feel fuller so we don't eat as much.

There are also herbal solutions to the comfort food and gut bomb dilemma. Here are some:

Enzymes or Enhanced Enzymes have a combination of enzymes designed to break down all types of foods including fats and carbohydrates to improve your digestion.

This Smoothie Mix with 22 grams of whey protein, as a substitute for a between meals snack. This delicious, creamy drink mix gives you a protein alternative as a snack to help you stay away from fatty foods.

These nutritional snack bars are another healthy snack alternative. Fortified with sprouted grains, greens and bluegreen algae, these bars are a complete protein offering all essential amino acids.

Increase overall health with whole AFA bluegreen algae and AFA bluegreen algae with the cell wall removed, wild-crafted, organic, all natural superfoods. Bluegreen algae is one of the best foods in the world and eating it is one of the easiest and most effective ways to stay healthy and keep away from the doughnuts.

Is Your Thyroid Protected?

To the nation and people of Japan we send our heartfelt prayers for healing after the cataclysmic events they have recently endured.

Many people are concerned about harmful radiation and not knowing how far it might spread. They therefore are concerned with protecting their thyroid glands with potassium iodide. Organic Iodine from supplements and foods rich in iodine can help prevent the thyroid gland from taking in further amounts of iodine in radioactive form. Potassium iodide cannot prevent radioactive iodine from entering the body, nor can it "cure" already damaged tissues or protect other organs. Taking supplements or foods rich in organic iodine can however help prevent the thyroid gland from taking in further amounts of iodine – specifically radioactive iodine.

The thyroid gland needs iodine to make thyroid hormones and we usually get iodine from food. Radioactive iodine released during a nuclear accident is of concern because radioactive iodine can get into the body through breathing, eating or drinking. Once radioactive iodine is ingested, it is quickly absorbed by the thyroid gland which damages thyroid tissues.

The human body needs about 140-150 micrograms of iodine a day. Blue-green algae contains organic iodine. This whole algae form contains 0.4mcg of iodine per serving (4 caps/tabs or 1 gram of algae); this form that has the cell wall removed contains 0.3mcg of iodine per serving (4 caps/tabs, or 1 gram of algae).  Products we like  that contain organic iodine include: this form of whole alage, this form of the heart of the algae, this coenzynme Q10 supplement, this sprouts combination, these great snack bars and this stem cell support supplement.

Blue-green algae is also rich in the antioxidant chlorophyll which helps promote healthy aging due to oxidation and may inhibit gene mutations. Diets high in fruits and vegetables that are high in antioxidants also promote health and reduce the effects of aging.

The Japanese people, especially those closest to the nuclear plant are of course the highest at risk. There are ways that you can offer support to the relief efforts in Japan. Charities such as Red Cross and Unicef are actively providing assistance and are just a couple of the mainstream charities helping. Whether it's through your time, money, or thoughts, those in Japan are in desperate need of our help, and every little bit helps.

Melt Off That Winter Weight Gain

I look out the window fearing that I am looking in a mirror as I see the plump rounded snowman the kids have made staring back at me. Of course he is grinning, probably knowing that his pounds will soon be melting away effortlessly as the sun has come out.

There are some things us humans can do though to help with the extra weight we add on over the winter that are almost as effortless as our grinning snowy friend.

•Drinking water moves toxins and fat out of your system.
•Taking enzymes with meals or between them boosts your metabolism.
•Using probiotics has been shown to reduce abdominal and subcutaneous fat and there has been evidence reported of the probiotic acidophilus causing an increased level of leptin (protein that can decrease appetite and increase metabolism).
•Eating 5-6 smaller meals or healthy snacks throughout the day rather than 3 bigger meals a day increases metabolism and reduces body fat.

Of course all these tips need to be accompanied by a healthy diet and exercise. Maybe a rousing snowball fight with the kids will get me started!!

Natural Flea Prevention for Dogs and Cats

When we moved from the mostly flea-free zone of Colorado to the warm sunny and flea-infested land of California, naturally I worried. I fretted that our two Chihuahuas, Tequila and Milagro, would get fleas … not to mention our aging cat Luna.

So I did what all panicked pet owners do – I immediately sent out an SOS to my friend and holistic veterinarian Madalyn Ward. She lives in Texas with cats, goats, chickens, and all kinds of other critters … all of which could have fleas but don't.

I peppered her with questions:

- Should I go with a chemical solution like Front Line?
- Would diatomaceous earth be effective?
- Are there any other natural solutions?
- Would daily flea-combing help?

Luckily, her answer was simple--so simple, in fact, that you probably won't read about it anywhere on the internet. But it's true. Her answer? Fleas don't bite animals with clean and healthy blood. It's as simple as that.

The Proof is in the Pudding
Actually, the proof is in Madalyn's kitties. Her cats are indoor/outdoor cats, and when they are outdoors they have a tendency to hang out with feral cats, who definitely do have fleas. So do Madalyn's cats get fleas from such close association with their feral buddies?

Sometimes … but not for long.

It seems like fleas don't really like cats with healthy blood. Fleas may jump on Madalyn's cats from time to time, but don't stick around. I have found the same thing to be true now that I have moved to California. The whole time we have lived here we have seen exactly one flea, on Milagro. But the flea didn't stick around on Milagro or bite him. Milagro didn't itch, scratch, or display skin irritation. Obviously, the boy has clean blood. This is interesting since neighbors around us are madly bathing, scrubbing, and otherwise dowsing their animals with anti-fleas chemicals.

So How Do You Keep the Blood Clean?
That's a good question and there is a simple answer: good digestion and excellent antioxidants. A dog who suffers from poor digestion will have "leaky gut syndrome," which literally means that food leaks from the digestive tract into the bloodstream. The result? Dirty blood.

To prevent dirty blood, boost your animal's digestion with enzymes and probiotics (like acidophilus and bifidus). To clean up blood, feed antioxidants like wheat sprouts, coenzyme Q10, and blue-green algae.

If that sounds like a lot of work, don't worry. There are two simple ways to achieve healthy digestion and clean blood:
- these convenient packets of algae, probiotics, enzyemes
- this powdered algae blended with probiotics

Opening one packet on your dog's food daily works well or if using the powdered algae blend you get  the addition of wheat sprouts. Simply sprinkle this powder on your pet's food and rest easy. To be frank, I put quite a bit of this powder on the dog and cat food – but they have gotten used to eating green food. It may take a while, but even the most finicky dog or cat seems to accept the "greenness" of their food after a while.

And so far … not a single flea bite and certainly no flea infestation. I love it!
